PRE-KINDERGARTEN and KINDERGARTEN

The Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs at St. Pius V School set a strong foundation for spiritual, social, and academic learning. Every child is given the opportunity to grow, learn, and experience new things in a structured and safe environment.
Enrollment in the Pre-Kindergarten class is open to students who will turn 3 years of age by September 1. Two years of Pre-K students, 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds, play and learn together in the same classroom. Parents are given the choice to enroll their students part-time, either two or three days per week, or full-time. Typically, the part-time schedule is made available only for 3-year-old students. Every Pre-K student attends for the full school day, from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
Pre-K is a time of great growth. We aim to foster responsibility, confidence, and independence in a school setting that is calm, happy, friendly, and fun. Jesus is at the center of the Pre-K classroom experience as students learn to spread kindness, practice good manners, and recognize that they are each specially created by God. Students develop a love of learning while building kindergarten readiness skills such as letter and number recognition, beginning phonics, and early math with geometry and shapes. Pre-K students participate in all of the “specials” offered at St. Pius V School, including Spanish, gym, art, and music, as well as weekly small groups sessions of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
Enrollment in Kindergarten is open to students who will turn 5 years of age by September 1.
Kindergarteners become familiar with the structure of school routines and rules while learning to be nice, kind, respectful, and helpful friends. In addition to participating in all the “specials” offered at St. Pius V School, kindergarteners practice their literacy skills such as phonics and blending sounds while learning to read, math skills such as recognizing numbers, counting, identifying shapes, and simple addition, and handwriting and other fine motor skills. Through religion classes and weekly small group sessions of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, kindergarteners come to recognize that they are unique and beautiful children of God.
The Pre-K and Kindergarten graduation at the end of the school year is a joyful time for families to celebrate all that their young ones have accomplished. Musical performances, prayers, and presentations of awards and diplomas, followed by a reception with many hugs and group photos, make for a memorable event in the lives of St. Pius V School families.
