Students practicing for the Christmas Concert

St. Pius V is very excited to announce that its annual Christmas Concert will be held on December 13, 2019 at 6:30 PM in St. Pius V Church.  Filled with cheer and faith, this concert is a beloved tradition within the St. Pius V community.  Parents, relatives and alumni come from across New England to celebrate Jesus’ birth with our students and to hear their voices singing God’s praises!

Ms. Bridget Scott, SPV Music teacher, ensures that students learn and practice their songs months in advance.

"It was a bit daunting for the students at first when I told them they'd be singing in Spanish, Portuguese, and German, but it allowed for wonderful discussions about how our Catholic faith is shared by those all around the world.  And I chose songs in these particular languages to celebrate the diversity within our own SPV community".

In the future, Ms. Scott hopes to incorporate polyphony, a song sang with multiple voices to the same melody.  However, she believes that the challenge of learning new songs in different languages will be challenge enough for this year!

Our Music and Art departments are working together to plan our best Christmas Concert yet!  Our students have been tasked with depicting each song they sing with an artistic work.  SPV Art teacher, Mrs. Martin-Jourdenais, will choose some of the sketches drawn by students for the Christmas Concert programs.
