Pi Day Activities

Last Friday, St. Pius V School celebrated Pi Day a day early with activities led by the middle school students for younger students at the school.

The 7th graders built a medieval catapult and hosted demonstrations of this device.

The 8th graders led a number of activities demonstrating Newton's Laws, including building rubber band-powered cars and a miniature roller coaster.

There were trivia competitions involving math and science facts revolving around the number, Pi, as well as a challenge for who could recite the highest number of Pi's decimals correctly.

(The 6th graders also acted out a skit on a book they had been studying: Black Ships Before Troy. This book details the events of The Iliad and is a wonderful way for middle school students to engage with the events of that classic text.)
